Leave a Legacy to Loaves and Fishes |
|
Has it really been 27 years that Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa has
been feeding the hungry in your neighborhood and have served over 3.5
million meals to the hungry? We can confidently say, “yes and we could
not of done this without our volunteers and donors”. We are so thankful
for what we have done in the past, but we are also constantly looking
ahead in the future. Our mission, “to feed the hungry of Contra Costa”
is permanently needed in our community. Can you help us ensure that the
need will be met? One simple way to do so is to designate a portion of
your estate to help serve the needy in the future years to come. To
learn more about how to support Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa through a will,
trust, or other planned giving arrangement, please contact Joleen

8th Annual Valentine's Tea benefits Loaves and Fishes |
|
St. Pauls' Episcopal Church in Walnut Creek held its 8th Annual
Valentine's Tea on Saturday, February 12, 2011. St. Paul's chose Loaves
and Fishes of Contra Costa as one of two non-profit beneficiaries of the
Tea proceeds. Delicious tea sandwiches, hot savories, and traditional
sweets were served to the sold-out crowd. Interim Executive Director
Eleanor Bonner spoke at the event to discuss the mission of Loaves and
Fishes to feed the hungry in Contra Costa and to announce
the 3.5 millioneth meal served milestone reached in January 2011. Thank
you St. Paul's for your generosity to Loaves and Fishes!

WOW-Look at our New Wheels on the road!! |

THANK YOU! John Muir/Mt. Diablo Community Health Fund. Loaves
and Fishes of Contra Costa (LFCC) is serving 900 meals a day. This
increase in meals is due to more people in need and the opening of our 2
new dining rooms in Pittsburg and Bay Point. The 900 meals are
prepared daily at the Catering Kitchen in Pittsburg and then transported
to our 8 dining rooms throughout Contra Costa County. The delivery
vehicle that is used daily to deliver these meals is an essential
component of delivering meals to the hungry of Contra Costa. Recently,
Loaves and Fishes was in great need of a reliable delivery vehicle so
we could keep up on the demand of our services. Because of our tight
budget due to the high demand and decrease in donations, LFCC could not
afford to purchase a delivery vehicle or have costly repairs on our
current vehicle. The current delivery vehicle being used daily was
bought in 2006 and had over 197,000 miles on it. The delivery routes add
up to approximately 40,000 miles per year.

Café Leonidas sweetens Loaves and Fishes clients day |

Belgian Chocolates! Our clients have received a very special treat
from Café Leonidas in Walnut Creek. The owner Anne Morgan called our
office to offer post-season chocolate Santas and snowmen, gourmet
coffee, melt-in-your-mouth almond Florentines, and adorable chocolate
lollipops. Our clients appreciate the hot nutritious meals we serve
every day, but this donation brightened some dreary winter days for many
people thanks to Anne. She likes giving back to the community and
helping those in need.

The New Social Fundraising Event |

Want to help Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa raise money for the
vital programs that feed the hungry of Contra Costa? Not sure how you
can help? Maggie, a donor from San Ramon, came up with a great idea.
When she recently sent in 5 checks for a donation, she left a great hand
written note. Her personal budget did not allow for a large donation,
so she invited her friends over for Holiday Tea. While the friends
enjoyed tea, goodies, and even a violin player, they also raised money
for Loaves and Fishes.
