Saint Isidore Students Serving the Hungry

Not all students qualify so it’s an honor to be selected. The second Friday of each month at L&F’s Martinez dining room, students from Saint Isidore School join their adult volunteers in serving food to the hungry. The kids who attend the school are required to give back to their community by having a required number of service hours for their Religion class. Participating at L&F is always one of their favorites.

Peggy Hawke is the coordinator of the program for eighth graders and she says that the student’s grades must be good for them to miss school. She notes that this is a real eye-opener for many of them.

Amanda considered her participation a privilege and was excited to help others. She thinks that we take a lot for granted in our society. Ms. Hawke asked Joe to join the group and he thought that it was a good experience.

In December another group from the school
assembled bags of toiletries to be handed out to the clients around the holidays.

Adult Saint Isidore volunteers bring all of the food each month and prepare it under the expert direction of Marthe Stokowski, who is a passionate chef and has a commercial stove of her own. In the next several weeks, watch for an article about this remarkable woman.
