Helping our Antioch Clients |

Kyna, her ten day old infant son London, and her partner visited with
the other clients in the Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa
(LFCC) Antioch dining room enjoying the hot meal and warmth on a cold and windy
day in December. Kyna and her family frequent the Antioch dining
room almost every day. Kyna‘s partner has a part-time job, but since
the economic downturn, neither has been able to find a full time job.
The family has been using the Loaves and Fishes meal service for a
little over one year since her partner lost his job. Since then, the
family has been homeless off and on, and the meal Loaves and Fishes
provides enables them to buy formula for the baby, and food for their
other 9 year old daughter. Kyna said that because of the Antioch LFCC
facility and meal, she has a place to sit down, eat a warm meal, and
rest with her baby. She said she is very thankful for Loaves and Fishes
because food is a necessity, and there are no other programs like
Loaves and Fishes in the Antioch area to get a warm meal in a place
where the volunteers and staff are friendly and welcoming.
Nichole and her 8 month old daughter are friends of Kyna and her
family. Nichole eats a meal at the LFCC Antioch dining room every day. She has been frequenting the
LFCC services of a hot nutritious meal for about two years. She is
homeless, and heard about the hot daily meal from friends. Nichole
said that the free warm meal Loaves and Fishes provides helps her because she eats
as much as she can, and may not eat the rest of
the day. The Loaves and Fishes meal allows her to use the food she has to feed her
baby and her two year old child. She also said that Loaves and Fishes
is nice especially in the cold winter months because it is warm, and
she can sit down to eat the meal. Because of the warm meal Loaves and Fishes gives,
she said she is not so tired all the time. Without the warm meal, she
feels tired all the time. She does not know what she would do without
the Loaves and Fishes meal.
