Pittsburg Dining Room feeds a family in need on the “first” day.

July 6th was to be the last day of making preparations to open our new joint partnership dining room with Saint Vincent de Paul. The plan was to do another soft opening day and just feed the staff in the building and the construction workers on site. This was our way to practice for tomorrow’s opening to the public. When word gets out and people show up, Loaves & Fishes (LFCC) needs to be accommodating.

When a family of five, Margie & Janis and their three children, Angel age 10, Leena age 3 and Dante age 6 arrived at our door, of course we opened our hearts and our doors to them. Margie explained that she heard about the program at St. Peter Martyr Church over the weekend. Saint Vincent de Paul offers a food bank at St. Peter Martyr every Saturday. Margie had been referred by the Deacon at the food bank program.

Margie who is disabled and Janis, who became disabled and was laid off from her job in the medical rehabilitation field, have the three young children at home. During the school year two of the children eat at school in the school lunch program. Now that they are out of school getting a hot nutritious meal daily for the kids and for the adults has been a little harder.

“We will be here daily,” exclaimed Margie, “we could benefit from a program that gives the kids a chance to eat, and the food is delicious.” The family lives on the border between Pittsburg and Antioch and wanted to come and see the new dining room. They have been waiting for the opening since the kids summer break began in June.

LFCC is serving a higher number of children this year compared to years gone by. Won’t you please stop and make a donation today to help us feed the kids and the families as we add this new dining room to our daily schedule? Go to our donation page to make a difference.
