Just like VW, Drivers Wanted

Thursday, 23 December 2010 19:18

There is a special group of volunteers that work daily in support of the Loaves & Fishes of Contra Costa's (LFCC's) mission to feed the hungry: The Volunteer Driver. This volunteer opportunity is unlike any other. They are our supply line and our life line. The volunteer driver schedules one day or more each week to pick up food products from area businesses, like Costco, Trader Joes, Safeway, and Orowheat. They then load their cars, SUV’s or trucks and bring the donations to the LFCC central kitchen in Pittsburg. From there we produce over 800 meals a day for the hungry of Contra Costa.

If you have the time and would like to join the ranks of our volunteer drivers, please contact
Eleanor Bonner, our Director of Operations at 925-687-6760 or email her at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

The idea started when two parishioners met the Loaves & Fishes of Contra Costa (LFCC) Operations Manager at a community meeting. From there the church decided to minister to the community by providing hot meals. LFCC agreed to supply the food. CBC became a partner site in January 2010.

Our demand has never been higher and donations have not kept pace with the need. You have all helped us to meet our goals of serving all who are hungry in the communities we service. Please take a bow and know that Loaves & Fishes of Contra Costa appreciates and depends on each and every one of you.

Here are some of just a couple of the myriad volunteers, Claire and Matt, who work in the Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa catering kitchen to help sort, chop, and prep food that is donated by our food partners. The containers of fresh produce are used in nutritious meals provided by the kitchen to our dining rooms and partner sites.
