Bountiful Harvest from Danville Farmer’s Market

Pacific Coast Farmer’s Market Association has been assisting L&FCC at the Danville Farmer’s Market each Saturday since 2006. A team of capable volunteers gather fresh produce so essential to our daily menus.

Farmers MarketThanks to the generosity of the non-profit Pacific Coast Farmer’s Market Association, Loaves and Fishes has been represented at the Danville Farmer’s Market each Saturday from 9am to 1pm since 2006. It takes a team of capable volunteers to gather fresh produce items so essential to our daily menus.

Max Timms, Danville Market Manager, provides a table and tent each weekend for the booth staffed by volunteers from the National Charity League (NCL) Rolling Hills Chapter. These mother-daughter teams talk with interested people about donating fresh food from the market.
Financial contributions are also accepted which are then used by Max Timms to negotiate with the vendors to buy farm produce - he looks for items that will last for 5-7 days so we can use them all of the next week.
As the market is packing up for the day, a volunteer driver arrives - coordinated weekly by volunteer Phil Oris. The driver makes the rounds to individual vendors to see if they have any surplus fruit or vegetables they would like to donate. The driver then packs up all the various food items in his vehicle for delivery to our Pittsburg kitchen. Once there, the driver unloads the weekend haul and stores it in our large refrigerator for use the following week.
Special thanks to:

  • Phil Oris & his volunteer drivers team,
  • Max Timms and the Farmer’s Market
  • NCL mother/daughter teams.
