National Charity League (NCL) helps provide the Summer of Youth

Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa (LFCC) is feeding more children of needy families. What you may not be aware of is how the National Charities League (NCL), teams of mothers and daughters volunteer their time and efforts to help LFCC in the summer months. Summer means vacations and time away for many of our legacy volunteers who may use the hot summer months to relax with children and grandchildren.  When our faithful legacy volunteers schedule summer vacations, the NCL has traditionally stepped in to help fill the shifts needed at our dining rooms.

A typical day with the NCL might be for two  to three mothers and four to six daughters per dining room, serving our clients together as a team.

These summer shift coverage’s provide both the mother and daughter teams a great volunteering experience, while also enabling LFCC to complete its mission of feeding the hungry. It is also encouraging to see children and adolescents helping to serve peers. The lessons learned during this volunteer experience may add to the life experience of these young volunteers, help to instill the value of service, and just as importantly, add a smile to the faces of those who they serve. Thank you NCL!
