Michael Baroman-Coggins has been in the food industry for thirty seven years, with fifteen years in non-profit food service management. As Executive Chef for Project Open Hand in San Francisco for twelve years Mike managed a kitchen that produced 2,600 meals a day for people with AIDS/HIV, seniors and the critically ill in two counties. As a member of their management team, Mike worked on projects from fund raising events to social entrepreneurship ventures. Mike also worked for three years with The Salvation Army, building and running a kitchen in Hawaii, and consulting on projects in Van Nuys and Oakland.

Mike has worked in the private sector: as Executive Chef and Vice President of a food manufacturer, as manager with an airline catering company, as an instructor at the California Culinary Academy, and is a U.S. Navy Submarine Service veteran, as well.

While Mike lives in the East Bay, he spent seventeen years living in Honolulu. The values and culture of Hawaii shaped the philosophy of how Mike lives his life to this day. Service to ones community and “Ohana” (family) has lead him to the path of service in the non-profit sector. Mike has been married for fifteen years to his wife Dee.

Carmen Schiavone is a retired IT manager with a career spanning several financial institutions. She has a passion for food. Raised in an Italian family, she has been cooking since she could stand and reach the counter. She started taking cooking lessons in grade school and still takes classes to develop new skills.

Carmen believes that food and proper nutrition are the foundation to a successful life. A child can’t learn; an adult can’t work or care for a family on an empty stomach. She is delighted to be part of Loaves & Fishes, feeding the hungry in our community.
