Loaves and Fishes offers a free basic introductory Culinary Arts program for individuals interested in the culinary industry and experiencing barriers to employment. This training program teaches basic culinary skills needed to qualify as a candidate for a starting position within the Culinary Industry and Hospitality Industry. The program includes training in the basics of a commercial kitchen, job retention and life skills. Our vision is to provide better preparation opportunities for students to obtain jobs that will lead to true careers and financial independence. Students will also be introduced to the robust Culinary Arts program at Diablo Valley College, and provide help in obtaining jobs in the culinary field. Upon completion of this class each student will have earned the requisite Safety and Sanitation License (ServSafe Certificate) required by law for all food related service workers.
The Culinary Arts Program is taught by Chef Ted Elsner. Chef Ted has nearly a decade of experience teaching culinary Arts, who also has a Masters Degree in education. He is talented in teaching a diverse population who may have varied learning styles. His goal is to teach students and help them reach their culinary goals and help them be successful.
